Fact or Fiction: Good Always Wins

I am a fan of superhero type story lines.  The solid character who is loyal and good to the core.  Why?  Well, mainly because I am a firm believer that good always wins.  And I don't mean that in a cinematic, comic book or a fiction novel confined sort of way.  I'm talking every day people.

The other day, my son came home fairly upset.  One of his friends keeps stealing his lunch.  While I was on the verge of getting my mamma bear on, he kept on repeating that he didn't know what to do because that boy was his good friend.  That took me back a bit.  How could this kid be a good friend if he's making my son miserable?

My answer wasn't eloquent, nor was I very nice.  I frankly stated that life was too short to put up with jerks and that a true friend wouldn't be a jerk.  It was like a completely brand new concept was opened up to my son.  The thought of releasing the friendship had never crossed his mind.  Fancy that.  He took it to heart and the next think I knew, I got a call from his friend's mom.  She told me that my son marched right up to her and told her straight out that her son was stealing his lunch and it wasn't nice.  Then he turned to his friend and told him point blank that he didn't put up with that kind of behavior.  While they stood there in shock, my son grabbed his lunch and sat with new friends.

After hearing this tale over the phone, I was speechless.  So, apparently was the other mom.  She'd never had a kid stand up to her before, or her son.  Surprised as she was, she said my son expressed himself eloquently and without losing composure.  He had apparently said what he wanted to say and then promptly moved on.  My son is nine years old.

The boy is my hero.  He proves that good wins, whether in this life or the next.  Good heart, good intentions, and that loyalty to good people is possible and attainable.  No comic books, no super powers, no gamma radiation or cell alteration necessary.

Good.  Always.  Wins.

  1. This. Is. AWESOME! As a mother of a 10 year old daughter, with an 8 year old boy (BFF's son) who is always at my house, I feel that one of the best things I can do for my kids is to empower them with a strong, healthy sense of self. You have done that in spades with your son. Well done, AwesomeSauce! :) One day your kid will realize what a great mom he has.
