Aardvark... ::cough cough:: Sorry, Art Work

The origin of the words "art work" has always baffled me.  Since when is it work?  I paint in spurts.  Frequently, but in spurts with an eight month break in between.  Not that I don't have plenty of ideas.  I've got plenty going on in my head.  I'd be a great brain study for aliens.  Sign me up.

Anyway, there is no "work" involved in art.  At least not for me.  Some talented folks create every day and that's what makes them happy.  Makes me happy too.  In fact, if I don't paint something, I get a little crabby.  Nobody likes a crabby lady.  But, I do like to take an occasional break before I bust out the moves on canvas.

Last week, I was in town ordering paint brushes.  The brushes are series seven Winsor and Newton's and they are the most fantastic brushes since finger paint.  They also cost a freaking arm and a leg... that is if my arm was $195 and my leg was $210 (my toes being a twenty percent off coupon which really only covers tax and not much else).  I hyperventilate a little just at the thought and not over the price tag, but the brush itself.  ::drool::  While I was there I got offered a prime spot in a gallery.  I don't know how to get into a gallery, but I did.  I gave the clerk my card (it has one of my paintings on it) and the clerk gave it to the gallery owner who offered me prime wall space in her showroom.

Weirder things have happened.

I've never shown in a gallery before.  Mainly because I couldn't fathom that anyone would pay good money for my stuff.  I don't pay good money for my stuff.  I paint it, frame it and find a place for it on my wall.  Then I forget about it.  Kinda odd that way.  I don't give my paintings a second thought until someone comes to visit and makes a comment about it.  Frankly speaking, I don't buy other artists artwork, because unless I can't recreate it, I wouldn't buy it.  I've met one artist I loved so much, I'd buy his work.  He was THAT talented.

However... the painting the gallery liked so much is already gone to a new home.  So, I repainted it.  Here it is!

Into the gallery it goes.  Actually... into the framers we go, then off to the gallery!

Now, I have to get back to "work".  Such a good excuse to get out of other things I don't want to do.  I can hold up my loaded brush and say... "Sush!  Mommy's painting."
